Women's Appearance in the Government
Contributing to proving that woman had full capability to hold their own were the women at the fair who advocated their part in politics. During the Fair, the World’s Congress Auxiliary was held, discussing “every conceivable spectrum and activity of humanity”(Burg 235). Within this spectrum that was to be approached was women's rights.
- Many speeches were made, including the ones by Susan B. Anthony and Bertha Palmer
- The Board of Lady Managers made an effort to educate and advocate for equality, including equal wage for women workers
- The role of the Board was to operate the Women’s Building with all its programs and exhibitions.
- The Board was well respected and funded by congress, drawing in public interest and took opportunity as a chance to speak for all the women at the World’s Fair.
- The mass meeting of women during the Congress of Representative Women allowed influential feminists to create a network that was, in the words of Mrs. Palmer, a “lasting and permanent” benefit of the fair
